Serafi carefully vets each surplus hide we use against our strict mission of giving new life to natural hides that would have otherwise gone to waste. This zebra leather is a derivative of the Bubye Valley Conservancy [BVC] in Zimbabwe, a world-leading wildlife conservation and research center. The BVC operates on a management system that has repeatedly proven to increase the population of the animals on its 850,000 acres while simultaneously funding anti-poaching efforts that have helped to make it the only wild reserve in the world where rhino populations are stable and growing.
Because zebra are so populous in the area, they are often harvested for their meat. In this case, the front half of the hide was used for other purposes, leaving the back half as excess. The excess hide was donated to Serafi; We then worked with our manufacturer to meticulously wield as many bags out of this one half-skin as possible.
