This giraffe hide was donated to Serafi and is a derivative of the Bubye Valley Conservancy in Zimbabwe, Africa. The BV Conservancy is a world-leading centre for wildlife conservation and research, funded by strictly regulated hunting management operations and donations from the international community.
"The Bubye Valley Conservancy is one of the most ambitious, self-sustaining private-sector initiatives for wildlife conservation in Africa today. It is an extremely efficient animal sanctuary with a comprehensive management plan, which includes detailed research projects. It provides a land-use model for Zimbabwe, the whole of Africa, and beyond." - The Conservation Imperative.
Serafi carefully vets each surplus hide we use against our strict mission of giving new life to natural hides that would have otherwise gone to waste. We are impressed with the Bubye Valley Conservancy that operates off of a management system that increases the population of the animals on its 850,000 acres while harvesting offset animals at an old age for the local's food security and to fund anti-poaching efforts on the Conservancy. *Due to its efficient anti-poaching strategies, the Bubye Valley Conservancy is now the only wild reserve in the world where rhino populations are stable and growing.
The majority of this hide is recorded to have been used for other design purposes. Serafi found our lane in using the small scrap pieces from the prior designer's leftovers - enough to wield six bags in total.
